Katie Lake

Katie Lake was born and raised in Massachusetts where she started dancing at the age of 3 years old. She received her primary dance training at the Dance Studio of Wakefield & Northeast School of Ballet with additional training at the Boston Ballet School, the Joffrey School of Ballet, Miami City Ballet, & Kaatsbaan International Dance Center. She holds a BFA in Dance from Alonzo King LINES Ballet/Dominican University in San Francisco, CA.

After university, Katie joined Ballett of Saarländisches Staatstheater in Saarbrücken, Germany as a Soloist. In her four years with the company she performed in works by world renowned artists such as Ohad Naharin, Johan Inger, Alexander Ekman, Stijn Celis, Marguerite Donlon, & Kenneth MacMillan, among others.

Since returning to the states, Katie has danced with Gibney Dance Company, SFdanceworks, Alejandro Cerrudo, and has performed works by Bryan Arias, Olivier Wevers, Andi Schermoly, and Laura O’Malley. Most recently, Katie moved to Portland, Maine, and will soon begin working with Little House Dance.

Katie originally came to yoga as a cross-training method to support and enhance her dancing, but she quickly found that the benefits of the practice move far beyond the physical. She uses her yoga practice and teaching as a lens to see herself more clearly, to find a deeper sense of connection to her physical body, and to realize her potential as part of her communities and the world. She has been teaching yoga for the last five years and now teaches virtual group and private yoga classes. She is so grateful for the opportunity to teach and help others discover their internal sense of joy and empowerment through the movement of dance and yoga.

When she’s not dancing or teaching, you can usually find Katie running in the nearest park or spending time with friends and family. She is delighted to be joining the MOVE family!
